Shepway businesses back Lydd airport

Businesses across Shepway have voiced their support for the development of Lydd Airport. In a survey carried out by Channel Chamber of Commerce members backed the planned investment in upgrading facilities and services at the airport.

Chamber Chief Executive Peter Hobbs said, "This is a very powerful message from the business community of Shepway that the area needs the airport to grow and develop. The vast majority of those taking part in our poll believe that the expansion of Lydd will be good for business.

"I would urge the local authority to heed the views of our members, who represent employers large and small across a broad spectrum of the local business community."

On hearing the results Cliff Spink, Managing Director of Lydd Airport, said: "I am delighted to hear that local businesses are backing Lydd. If we are allowed to develop operations I really believe that Lydd can act as a catalyst for economic regeneration in the region, creating jobs and bringing hope to local communities blighted by soaring unemployment."

Shepway District Council is to vote on the airport’s planning applications on 9th July.

What do you think? Are Shepway businesses right? Should the expansion at Lydd airport go ahead? Add your comments and thoughts below.
