Formula One champion John Surtees to drive Channel Tunnel

John SurteesFormer F1 World champion John Surtees will become the first person to drive a sports car through the full length of the Channel Tunnel next week. Surtees, the only driver to have become world champion on two wheels and four, will make the world first journey on Tuesday 17th November as part of the 37th annual Beaujolais Burlington Run and in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Tunnel.

The 1964 Formula One world champion will drive the ground-breaking Ginetta G50EV, a stunning electric sports car prototype made by British car marque Ginetta, to highlight that low carbon travel is now a real option.

He will start from Tunnel entrance in Folkestone at 11.15am, travel the 31 mile route and arrive in Coquelles, France at 1.30pm.
