Jobs to go at ferry firm

Norman ArrowFerry company LD Lines is to cut 19 jobs as its high-speed catamaran ferry, the Norman Arrow, moves from the Dover Boulogne route to Portsmouth and is replaced by a traditional ferry.

Of Norman Arrow's 60 staff contigent, 28 crew will be transferred to the Norman Spirit when it transfers to Dover to take over the route while 13 will remain with the catamaran during its Winter layover prior to starting service at Portsmouth with the remaining 19, mainly cabin crew, facing redundancy.

The firm told the BBC it regretted job losses but had to increase freight capacity.

The transfer takes place next week.
