Commuters and motorists are facing travel chaos in South Kent tonight - 11th February 2010. Junctions 11 and 12 of the M20 at Folkestone are closed following the introduction of Operation Stack this afternoon, many other roads remain closed or impassable and train and bus operators are experiencing delays and reduced services following the exceptional snow fall last night.

Southeastern is warning of short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes on its train services. Stagecoach buses are now running from Folkestone to Lydd but Sandgate Hill is still closed towards Hythe, they are operating on the M20 to Hythe Hill and picking up the route at Hythe Light Railway. Its Dover buses are running but with restricted services.

Road Chaos
In addition to the M20 being closed from junctions 11 and 12 as a result of Operation Stack, Kent Police are also reporting hazardous conditions from Junction 9 to 13 and the Capel le Ferne coastbound slip round is closed to cars.

There are also queues of one mile on the A20 before Hawkinge, five mile queues getting into Dover and the Courtwood junction is gridlocked.

The MET Office is now warning of widespread icey conditions on untreated roads across Kent tomorrow.
